Step 1 of 2

You answered “DVR” as the method you use to connect to cameras. Generally speaking, DVRs tend to integrate with analog cameras. As a result, DVRs offer limited compatibility with the modern central stations and analytics. If you’re currently running a DVR, you’ll likely want to consider upgrading it to an NVR or a VMS. This change may require upgrading to IP cameras, but you can also consider keeping your existing cameras and connecting them to your new system through analog-to-digital converters.

You answered “NVR” as the method you use to connect to cameras. NVRs are an excellent option for smaller sites. While they lack the sophistication of higher-end VMS systems, they’re easy to install due to being IP based. Even if your NVR is a closed system and can’t plug into central stations or analytics, you can still upgrade your cameras to current industry standards by connecting them directly to those services. While you can add analytics to NVRs, if you have more than one server across your security camera deployment, you might want to consider migrating to a VMS before investing heavily in advanced analytics.

You answered “VMS” as the method you use to connect to cameras. If you’re running a video management system (VMS), you’re in an excellent position to integrate the advanced video analytics from Actuate into your current system. VMSes provide state-of-the-art software for security camera management and monitoring. While simpler systems rarely exceed NVR in terms of capability, high-end VMS systems provide a solid foundation for managing and growing your security system. Many VMS systems provide onboarding analytics such as loitering and line crossing, for example, but their real power is in their compatibility. You can learn more about Actuate’s extensive VMS compatibilities here.

You answered “Directly to the Camera” as the method you use to connect to cameras. While connecting directly to cameras can be an excellent option for some sites, deployments with more than two devices is extremely limited due to restrictive management and storage features. However, if your cameras are at remote sites, connected through 4G modems, or moved regularly, then your current system can be a fantastic option for deploying advanced analytics. If you don’t fall into one of these categories, you’ll likely want to consider upgrading to an NVR or VMS before investing in advanced analytics. Certain manufacturers such as Axis and Mobotix even have onboarding compatibility so that cameras can emulate a VMS and get full functionality with even the most high-end analytics.

You answered that you currently are either not using analytics or are opting to constantly record. The main downside of continuously recording is that it can waste a ton of storage and bandwidth. However, if neither of those is a limiting factor for your system, constantly sending a video to advanced analytics can result in high-performance security systems.

You answered “Motion Detection” as the type of analytics you currently use. Motion detection is the core of most security camera systems. As such, it provides an excellent foundation for advanced analytics deployments. However, you have to be sure that your motion detection system is sensitive enough to get all relevant events but not triggered by erroneous motion such as vehicles in the distance. If you want to reduce costly false positives, layering on advanced analytics is the obvious next step.

You answered “Camera/NVR Analytics” as the type of analytics you currently use. Many camera & NVR systems are trying to compete with advanced analytics providers like Actuate by providing onboarding features such as loitering and line crossing. Unfortunately, except for extremely high-end cameras from manufacturers such as Avigilon, these systems generally do not work well. If you’re relying on camera-based analytics, the first step is to audit their performance. In most cases, you’ll find that switching to cloud-based advanced analytics will dramatically improve your system’s performance.

You answered “AI” as the type of analytics you currently use. Congratulations! Advanced analytics allow any security team to get the most out of their existing security investments. Unfortunately, not all AI systems are created equal. Feel free to contact us for an audit of your current AI deployments and get any questions answered about your existing security system.

You answered that your cameras are not currently monitored. You’ve come to the right place. Advanced AI-powered analytics allow you to get the full performance of monitored cameras without the upfront investment. Contact us to learn how you can get critical alerts from your cameras without the expense of human monitoring.

You answered “Local Security Guards” as the method for how your cameras are currently monitored. Local security guards are effective because they can quickly respond to incidents. Unfortunately, this flexibility also makes them inefficient at monitoring cameras. Security personnel have so many different responsibilities that monitoring cameras often is at the bottom of their priority list. As a result, they can easily miss critical events. Teams with local security guards can often increase productivity and accuracy with advanced analytics solutions.

You answered “Outside Central Station” as the method for how your cameras are currently monitored. Since third-party central stations specialize in monitoring cameras, they arguably have the most to gain from deploying advanced AI with the systems they are currently monitoring. Contact Actuate today to learn how we can accelerate your current operational efficiency and increase per account monetization.

You answered “In-House Central Station” as the method for how your cameras are currently monitored. It can be challenging for in-house central stations to train personnel and develop and operate systems to maintain security across hundreds of cameras. This is where advanced AI comes into play. By deploying Actuate into your central monitoring station, you can dramatically increase the type and number of events you identify while substantially decreasing the cost of maintaining a high-degree of security.
